How to Screen Share to a Newline Smart Board

Applies to: Teachers and staff using Newline interactive smart boards
Purpose: Share your Mac or Windows screen wirelessly or with a cable
Why this matters: Screen sharing makes it easy to present lessons, display videos, or collaborate in class

Before You Begin

  1. Turn on the Newline board and your device.

  2. Make sure both are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

    • At school, confirm that your Mac and the board are on the same VLAN/subnet, otherwise AirPlay will not work.

  3. Keep your device updated with the latest macOS or Windows version for best compatibility.

Method 1: AirPlay (Recommended for Mac/iOS)

AirPlay is the most reliable way to share your screen on a Newline board when using a Mac. It supports both video and audio smoothly.

  1. On your Mac, click the Control Center icon (two sliders) in the menu bar.

    • On iPhone/iPad, swipe down from the top-right corner.

  2. Select Screen Mirroring.

  3. Choose the Newline board from the list. It might be named RSPlus or after the classroom/Office it is located in.

  4. If prompted, enter the AirPlay code shown on the board.

  5. Your screen (and audio) will now appear on the Newline board.

Tip: For best performance when playing videos, use AirPlay instead of Newline Cast.

Method 2: Newline Cast (Alternative)

Newline Cast can work for basic screen sharing but may have issues with video and audio playback.

  1. On the Newline board, open the Newline Cast app.

  2. A Cast Code or QR code will appear.

  3. On your device:

    • Go to https://newlinecast.com in a browser.

    • Enter the Cast Code.

    • (Optional) Download the Newline Cast app for easier connections later.

  4. Select Share Screen and choose what you want to share (entire screen, a window, or a tab).

Method 3: Miracast (Windows Only)

If you are using Windows and your device supports Miracast:

  1. Press Windows key + K on your keyboard.

  2. Select the Newline board from the list of wireless displays.

  3. Approve the connection on the board if prompted.

  4. Your screen should now be mirrored.

Method 4: HDMI Cable (Backup Option)

If wireless sharing isn’t working, a direct HDMI connection is the most stable option.

  1. Plug an HDMI cable into your laptop and into the HDMI port on the board.

  2. Switch the Newline input to HDMI.

  3. Your screen will display instantly.

Troubleshooting

  • Not seeing the board? Make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.

  • Choppy video or missing audio? Use AirPlay instead of Newline Cast.

  • Connection drops often? Restart Wi-Fi or switch to HDMI for reliability.

  • No sound from the board? On your Mac, go to System Settings → Sound → Output and select the Newline board.

  • Board not showing up? Restart both the board and your device.

  • Board showing offline or trouble connecting? Make sure you update the Screen Sharing application to the latest version.

Best Practices

  • For Macs and iPads, always use AirPlay for video and audio.

  • Use Newline Cast only for static content (presentations, documents).

  • Keep both the board and your device updated for compatibility.

  • Have an HDMI cable handy as a reliable backup.
